Imphal, March 20 2012:
The Chingai police have been accused of shielding culprits involved in ransacking of houses in connection with the recently concluded Assembly election instead of delivering fitting punishment to them.
According to sources, the house of Matuiching Zimik (62) of Kalhang village in Chingai AC of Ukhrul district was ransacked in the night of January 28, the day the State went to polls.
Following a complaint lodged with the Chingai Police Station, a case was registered under Section 436/447/37 of the IPC and Section 27 of Arms Act, vide FIR No 2(2) 2012 Chingai PS .
Based on the information provided by the complainant, AS Yangmi (36), AS Somingam (24), Y Ringphami (40) and Wonmi (35) were listed as the culprits.
Yangmi, Somingam and Ringphami have been booked and they were lodged at a jail while Wonmi has not been arrested till date.
On the night of February 6, the alleged culprits also burnt down the house of Matuichings brother, Z Tuisang (46) .
An attempt made to reconcile the two parties by 2nd OC of Chingai PS Joseph Zimik was futile.
The perpetrators were also accused of opening gunfire after setting the house afire.
On March 16, the culprits were produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate, Ukhrul.
After hearing both sides, the Court quashed the release order of the culprits.
Matuiching rued that the police officials concerned of Chingai police station had provided protection to the culprits instead of awarding suitable punishment against them.
He alleged that the police had threatened him rather than hearing the complaint and solving the case.
