Imphal, December 19 2017:
Women Action for Development, Kairenphabi member Oinam Suradhani has stated that miscreants who commit crime and violence against women should be given proper punishment according to the law of the land andnot saved or covered up by coming to an agreement with money power .
Speaking to media persons at Kairenphabi, Suradhani stated that Laishram Krishnamohon Singh of Kairenphabi Maning Leikai allegedly tried to sexually assault a married woman (who is also the mother of a three year old girl child) of the same locality, on December 12 at around 9.30 pm.
She stated that the incident occured when there was no one at the victim's house as a musical nite was organised at the locality that day .
The accused entered the house and allegedly tried to sexually assualt the victim .
The victim broke free from the accused and defended herself, she added.
An FIR was filed after a complaint was lodged at Bishnupur women police the next day, however, the accused is still walking free on the street, she asserted.
Questioning why the accused has not been arrested yet even after an filing an FIR, she alleged that Krishnamohon used money power to hush down the situation and added that such trend of coming to an agreement using money is higly condemnable specially when it comes to cases of alleged sexual assualt .
She sought assistance and support from other organisation and Lups in bringing justice for the victim .
The victims family, local elderly people, Tengbang Sinpang Lup, Kairenphabi members, Women Action for Development, Kairenphabi members and locals attended the press meet.
