Sanjita's body claimed, last rites performed

The bereaved family of Laishram ningol Naorem ongbi Sanjita Devi, who passed away following health complications as a result of the recent Kakwa incident, has claimed her body from the RIMS mortuary and performed her final rites on Thursday.
Sanjita's family members along with locals gathered at the RIMS mortuary around noon on Thursday to claim her body.
At about 1 pm, a team of Singjamei police station helped the bereaved family in transportation of her mortal remains for the last rites.
On their way from the mortuary to Kakwa, the bereaved family briefly stopped at Uripok Huidrom Leikai, the maternal home of Sanjita, to allow mourners pay their last respects and offer floral tributes.
The body was then taken to Kakwa Naorem Leikai, where the final rites were performed.
It may be mentioned that pregnant Sanjita had been undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital since September 12 morning after heavy inhalation of smoke of a tear gas shell fired by security forces to disperse protestors in Kakwa area on September 11 evening fell near her leading to health complications including vomiting and headache.
Days after delivering a still-born baby, Sanjita breathed her last at 2.30 pm Wednesday at ICU of RIMS.
Sanjita's post mortem was conducted on Wednesday in the presence of a magistrate with video coverage.
