Imphal, January 19 2025:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has criticised the state government for failing to function independently under the provisions of the Constitution, alleging that it is acting only at a behest of the Centre, likening the same to a colonial rule.
Speaking at a felicitation and interaction programme organised by Mayang Imphal Block Congress Committee at Bengoon Mayai Leikai on Saturday, Dr Bimol reacted sharply to chief minister N Biren's recent remarks that the MP has been doing nothing in Parliament except holding protest posters like a child.
In response to the CM's tirade, the MP questioned if the chief minister was mocking him for fulfilling the will of the people.

Dr Bimol stated that he was sent to the Parliament by the people to raise the state's issues both nationally and internationally.
The MP reminded all concerned that before entering politics he was an academic and a social commentator, wrote on social issues in newspapers and had been appearing on national television for nearly three decades, advocating for the people of the state.
While he has not publicised his work, he said the CM's comments have made him reconsider whether he needs to do so to make society aware of his contributions.
The MP also revealed that he facilitated the submission of various memorandums addressing Northeast-related issues to central leaders, despite his name not appearing on them.
He also disclosed about the CM consulting him on several state matters in the past.
Acknowledging the CM's stressful situation amid the ongoing conflict, Dr Bimol expressed concern over whether the CM has any advisors to guide him on appropriate public statements.
Dr Bimol explained his symbolic protests in front of Parliament, which were intended to highlight the crisis in the state to the global audience.
While lamenting that his repeated requests for slots to speak about the crisis in Parhament were denied, he justified his protest, particularly over the disappearance of Kamalbabu from an army camp, as his duty as an MP.
He questioned whether the CM preferred to remain silent on such critical issues.
The Congress MP also criticised the influence of powerful individuals in the state who, backed by armed groups, are creating chaos and exploiting the public.
He recalled receiving multiple threats to withdraw from the Lok Sabha election and said that he will never forget those moments.
He warned that while the Kukis are motivated by a sense of nationalism, the so-called black sheep within the Meetei community pose a greater danger to the society.
He further pointed out constitutional principles, citing Article 163 of the Constitution, which states that the council of ministers should advise the Governor.
He emphasised that this mandate is not only enshrined in the Constitution but also supported by multiple Supreme Court judgments.
However, the CM has failed to uphold this responsibility, particularly in maintaining law and order, Dr Bimol asserted.
The MP claimed that the states inability to function freely and its reliance on the Centre for governance indicate a colonial-style rule.
He urged the public to critically examine the government's actions instead of perceiving the ongoing conflict as a mere political clash between Congress and BJP.
Dr Bimol lamented the plight of the so-called majority Meetei community, who, despite their written history of over 2,000 years, cannot even access Kangpokpi today.
He expressed frustration at the continuous jeering by the Kuki community that the Meeteis are confined in 600 square kilometres and wonder whether any Meetei could afford to remain silent in such a situation.
He also condemned the activities of armed groups who, despite the dire circumstances, continue to threaten the public, extort money, and even interfere in family disputes.
These actions, he said, are making a mockery of the state and its people.
Dr Bimol reiterated the need for the government to fulfil it's constitutional responsibilities.
In his address, Khundrakpam MLA Th Lokeshwar criticised the government for creating confusion among the people and called on the CM to clarify his role and the responsibilities of his government.
The Congress legislator stated that he is willing to resign if he finds the CM's response satisfactory.
Lokeshwar pointed out that during armed skirmishes in the foothills, the government is conspicuously absent, leaving some BJP affiliates to issue scripted statements .
This lack of coordination, he noted, results in inconsistent messaging.
Instead of criticising those who express their opinions or analyse issues in television discussions, Lokeshwar urged the government to introspect on its shortcomings and consider constructive suggestions.
He further remarked that silencing public voices is an inappropriate approach for any government.
