Imphal, November 18 2020: The Police Department cracked down on violators of guidelines and restrictions issued by the State Government and the State Disaster Management Authority in connection with COVID-19 pandemic which includes failure to wear mask in public places, failure to maintain social distancing in public places, spitting in public places etc to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus in the State today.

During the drive, two hundred and fifty-nine persons were detained and released after warning.

Altogether a sum of Rs 44,950 (forty-four thousand nine hundred and fifty) was collected as fines.

The Police Department further warned that the violators shall be dealt with strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act 2005 and other appropriate laws.
