Sanjita succumbs, last rites today

Laishram Ningol Naorem Ongbi Sanjita Devi breathed her last at ICU of RIMS Hospital on Wednesday afternoon with her last rites to be performed along with her stillborn baby at Kakwa Naorem Leikai on Thursday with Athoubi/Athouba (martyrs) honour.
Pregnant Sanjita had been undergoing treatment at RIMS since September 12 morning as a tear gas shell fired by security forces to disperse protestors at Kakwa on September 11 evening fell near her leading to health complications including vomiting and headache.
After her baby could not be saved, Sanjita breathed her last at 2.30 pm Wednesday at ICU of RIMS.
Sanjita's post mortem was conducted Wednesday in the presence of a magistrate with video coverage.
Meanwhile, representatives of the JAC against the Foetal killing in inhumane actions of security forces, Uripok Apunba Lup and members of Sanjita's maternal family met chief minister N Biren late Wednesday evening.
The JAC and family members agreed to claim Sanjita's body after reaching an understanding with the government on fulfilling all the demands.
JAC convener N William told media persons after the meeting that the JAC and family placed six demands out of which the government has so far fulfilled five.
Transfer of SDPO, Singjamei was one of the key demands and government transferred the police officer immediately.
He said that Sanjita's body will be claimed from RIMS morgue on Thursday morning followed by her last rites along with her stillborn body at Kakwa Naorem Leikai, and appealed people to join the ritual ceremony.
Meanwhile, special secretary (DP) Ningthoujam Geoffrey issued an order late Wednesday transferring SDPO Singjamei K Sunderbala as DSP (Vigilance) and at the same time posting L Santosh as SDPO Singjamei.
