Thoubal, April 18 2024:
Women vendors of Thoubal Keithel staged protest on Wednesday demanding resolution of the ongoing conflict before holding the 18th Lok Sabha election while deciding not to participate in any election conducted in India till the crisis is settled.
During the protest held at Thoubal Keithel, the vendors wore black ribbons and pasted posters inscribed with word -ings like 'Stop state terrorism', 'Manipur is suffering' and "Manipur wants peace and prosperity' around the market.
Speaking to media persons, the vendors expressed strong condemnation against alleged inaction by the Union government to end the nearly yearlong conflict while opining that the Centre seems to be abetting the conflict.
After his.
visit to the state during the peak of the conflict last year Union home minister Amit Shah had assured of returning after 15 days, but came back only after almost a year to beg for votes which tantamount to insulting the people of Manipur, they contended.
Posing whether 15 days in India are equivalent to a year in Manipur, the vendors asserted that election should only be conducted after a solution to the ongoing conflict is brought about.
