Imphal, December 17 2012:
Looking for a better and convenience way, villagers under Tousem sub division in Tamenglong district have decided to open new roads to connect with Haflong in Assam and other nearby cities in Nagaland.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Secretary of Tousem Village Authority Rampei Zeme said that in view of better transportation and convenience for the villagers, the development of the connectivity roads is undergoing under the supervision of SDO Tousem Armstrong.
For the said purpose, villagers are working all day long and spending their entire daily wages provided under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) .
From Tousem, Imphal is a long distance but to reach Haflong it is only 20Km.Once the development of the roads is completed, transportation would be convenient for villagers and they can easily market their agricultural products, Rampei said.
If farmers have to bring their agricultural products to Imphal they need to travel a long distance.
Apart from it, the farmers have to pay taxes amounting to Rs 400-500 at various check posts at Makru, Keimai, Sibilong, Nungba, Keiphundai and others.
So, they preferred to sell their Oranges which is one of the major products at any nearby market in Nagaland and Assam, he added.
