Reacting against NSCN-IM's opposition to the creation of Jiribam district by carving out some parts of Tamenglong district, Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDCC) has maintained that neither the NSCN-IM nor the JDCC has the authority over the land but it is with India and Manipur Governments.
Observing that opposition to demarcation of inter-district boundary between the proposed Jiribam and Tamenglong district as per government land record by NSCN-IM is very unfortunate, M Maipaksana Mangang, Convenor of JDCC, pointed out that according to the government land record, the two districts is separated by Moktongkhong river; and the eastern part of the river belongs to Tamenglong while the western portion to Jiribam.
Moreover, Tatbung and Phaitol parts of Tamenglong district inhabited by Kuki have been coercively carved out from Jiribam but the two villagers are still being recorded as village no 38 and 22 in the Government survey record of 1964-65, Maipak further pointed out.
