Storm hits CCpur; rains lash Noney, Tamenglong, Jiribam

Churachandpur, May 17 2022:
A heavy storm hit Churachandpur district including the main town area at about 10 am on Tuesday, leaving trees uprooted and causing water level of rivers to rise.
But there is no report of loss of life or injury to anyone.
In Singngat, the house of one Suokhokam was hit by a fallen tree caused by the strong wind.
But all the persons inside the ill-fated house were unhurt.
At the time of the incident, Suokhokam's wife and children were staying indoors and they thought that it was the sound of thunderstorm.
When they enquired, it happened to be the sound of a fallen pine tree that hit and destroyed their house.
The tree has been removed by the villagers and members of Singngat Youth Club.
The club members arranged a makeshift home built with tarpaulin for the ill-fated family.
In Tangnuam village cemetery area, the storm destroyed a house and electric wires.
At Gangpimual, a fallen electric pole blocked the road and caused problem for inter local communication.
However, the electric department acted swiftly by removing the said pole.
At Jangnuam village near Behiang border village, a large broken tree fell on a high-ten sion wire due to which the border area will not be able to get power supply until it is restored, said a source.
NONEY: Incessant rains wreaked havoc in many parts of Noney and Tamenglong district in addition to denizens of the districts facing serious inconveniences due to landslides and mudslides at different locations.
Almost all the rivers such as Irang, Iril and Barak are also flowing above the danger mark while power supply has been cut off and telephone network disrupted.
Many low lying areas, including farms are under flood water.
Incidents of landslides were reported along Tamenglong-Tamei, Tamenglong Nagaland, Tamenglong-Tousem and Imphal-Noney roads, thereby disrupting movement of vehicular traffic.
Meanwhile, Noney deputy commissioner Haulianlal Guite and Longmai SDO Lunmihthang Haokip made a spot assessment and took stock of the situation in Longmai, Noney district headquarters with the village leaders.
With regard to the weather condition, the district administration has also issued an advisory notice to the public to take caution and avoid travel especially along the roads where construction is underway, mainly NH 37 and IKT road.
Noney DC Haulianhal also advised travellers to avoid carrying kids and nursing mothers not to venture out unless necessary.
While informing that heavy rain has been forecast for the coming days, he said parents should not let children play near riversides, cliffs, water reservoirs and construction sites.
JIRIBAM: Due to heavy rainfall in the last few days, the level of Jiri river has risen to an alarming level while roads, localities and houses in Jiribam district have been flooded, affecting the daily lives to a great extent.
Schools and colleges also remain closed.
Around 60 houses at Jiribam Sorok Atingbi Kamranga Muslim village have been flooded and four houses washed away.
Another 4 houses at Leingangpokpi village are also flooded.
Meanwhile, the water level of Jiri river and its tributaries are rising at an alarming rate due to continuous rainfall.
Roads, paddy fields and localities around Jiribam have been inundated.
Roads leading to Jiri college from Dibong Khunou of Kalinagar, Dibong Lamlong to Islamabad, Kunjabon to Chingdong Leikai and Kunjabon to Chingdong Leikai, as well as long stretches of the Jiri-Tipaimukh road are among the roads affected by flooding.
Many families have shifted to higher grounds while a relief camp has been set up at the premises of Kamrangga Muslim Youth Club to provide relief to the flood-affected people.
