Unhygienic & banned edible goods seized

Unhygienic and health hazardous food items including tobacco products which have already been banned but found sold illegally in Imphal market were seized by a team of Food Security Officers of
the State.
The special drive was carried out in Imphal Masjid Road by a team of Food Security Officers led by Bimola Kumari, Food Security Designated Officer, Imphal East and assisted by the City Police.
She was accompanied by Y Satyajit, Food Security Officer, Imphal West; K Sunil Kumar, Food Security Officer,Churachandpur; N Khogendra, Food Security Officer,Ukhrul; Alvison Thouman; N Johny, Food Security Officer, Senapati and Y Surendra, Food Security Officer, Imphal East.

During the drive, the team managed to recover various food items and tobacco products which are unhygienic and hazardous to human beings and which have been accordingly banned by the government.
As soon as the drive began in some of the shops in Imphal Masjid Road, a number of shop keepers immediately shut down their shops and tried to flee from the scene.
However, they were made to open their shops by the City Police personnel.
The team also inspected some of the hotels along Kakhulong and Paona Bazaar.
Addressing media persons at the office of the Food Safety and Standard Wing, Lamphelpat here today, after the drive, Y Satyajit, Food Security Officer, Imphal West stated that the special mass drive was carried out by their team today following news reports that many shops and hotels are selling and making food items against the rules and regulations laid down under the Food Safety Standard Act.
During the drive, various food items manufacturing/made defying the rules laid down under Food Safety Standard Act and other tobacco products worth lakhs of rupees were recovered.
