AR rescues civilians

Imphal, January 16 2020:
Troops of Assam Rifles foiled an abduction attempt and rescued four civilians near New Kaiphundai in Tamenglong district, on January 11 and 12.A statement issued by PIB (DW) mentioned that a foot patrol spotted two abandoned and suspiciously parked Xenon pick-up vehicles, loaded with betel nut/leaves on the side of the road.
While conducting a search operation in the area around the vehicle, the patrol came under fire from suspected armed cadres, it said, adding that the troops retaliated to the fire upon which the miscreants fled from the spot, leaving behind a civilian that had abducted.
During further search on January 12, the troops rescued three other abducted civilians and recovered an AK 47 magazine with 12 ammunition rounds, 500 gms of explosive (PEK) and six detonators, added the statement.
The rescued civilians along with the recovered items, have been handed over to police concerned for further investigations.
