'No to salwar, yes to phanek'

Apunba Ireipak Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) has demanded the female students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya school to wear Phaneks instead of salwar from this year's academic session.
Speaking to media persons at AIMS office at Kwakeithel today, its president Rajesh Yumnam reminded that on December 31, last year, AIMS had urged all concerned institutions to ensure their students wear phaneks from the next academic session.
He said AIMS had urged JNV Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal to adhere to the ethnic tradition of the State, the JNV Principal approached the association and promised to ensure that the students wear phanek from he next academic session.
The Principal had also assured to include the social science subject under NCERT, which had not been in the curriculum for around four years, from the said academic session.
Rajesh Yumnam said that the association urged the Principal to ensure that the social science subject which details all the history, traditions, political scenarios of the State, to be taught to students from class VI to IX at all JNVs in the State.
He further said that AIMS will take stringent notice of all institutes whose students wear uniforms other than the traditional phanek.
He also warned against teachers wearing saree and salwars while teaching at Kids centre as the children will think that the said dress/ attire belong to Manipur.
The BOSEM, COHSEM and CBSE exams are knocking at the door, but he youths of the State are all engrossed in festivities and enjoyment.
As such the association will ban all kinds of festivities/ programmes from January 20, he said.
