Imphal, July 15 2014:
A thief who was trying to steal the spare tyre of a Tata Magic was caught today morning at the west of Kanglapark here in front of residential quarters of MLA Shyamkumar.
The person identified as Telem Robindro (35), s/o Thouba of Nilakuthi Canal Makha Leikai was caught by the owner of the vehicle Konthoujam Somorendro (27), son of Konthoujam Achouba of Yairipok Angtha, while the former was trying to steal the spare tyre of the vehicle bearing registration number MN1 0 X 3008 at around 11.30 am today.

Arrested Telem Robindro disclosed that he committed the theft as per instruction from one Md.Rafiuddin (48) of Hatta Golapatti who deals with selling second hand items.
He also added that Rafiuddin does the business by engaging a number of persons for stealing.
Police detained the arrested thief for further interrogation.
In connection with the incident, MLA Shyamkumar stated it is a fact that the second hand dealers use a large gang of thieves to run the business and also said that the arrest was made possible because of the CCTV camera installed at his quarters.
Appealing to the Home Department to take steps to control such crimes, MLA Shyamkumar asserted that the burgeoning cases of theft are due to the inactivity of the Government.
Expressing apprehension that the widely used vehicles in the state are of number 2 brand, the MLA, however, hastened to add it has not been exactly confirmed yet.
