Guv, others extend 1-Day greetings

Manipur Governor in-charge Ganga Prasad, chief minister N Biren Singh and others have greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of 75th Independence Day.
In his message, the governor said that on August 15,1947 India attained freedom from the British and the people of India have been celebrating this great historical event every year as Independence Day.
Freedom was achieved from the colonial powers after a long freedom struggle and innumerable sacrifices by millions of Indians.
On this day, we remember our brave forefathers and pay homage to them, which is our bounden duty.
We the present generation must strive tirelessly so that the hard won freedom continues to take us to greater wellbeing of all citizens of the country.
As India has made rapid strides on various fronts in the past few decades, new challenges have arisen posing a threat to the very core of nationhood and there is, therefore, a need to strive even harder to overcome these challenges to ensure that India remains healthy and becomes a leader in the comity of nations.
On this auspicious occasion, let us renew our pledge to protect the hard earned freedom and also contribute for a better India where all are equal and no one goes hungry or gets victimised, he said.
Chief minister Biren in his message said Independence Day reminds everybody the great freedom fighters, who fought against British colonialism and gifted us the hard-earned freedom.
It is an occasion to value the sacrifices behind the emergence of a sovereign and free India and pay our profound respect and homage to the makers of our country, he said and urged all to renew the pledge to uphold and promote the spirit of nationhood, unity and integrity of the nation and to commit to fulfil the vision of our great leaders who dreamt of an Independent, Sovereign, Secular, Democratic and Republic India.
The CM also stated the people not to forget that "we are still fighting a war to earn freedom from Covid-19 pandemic".
He said that we need to take another collective pledge to defeat the Covid pandemic by properly following the SOPs and honour the frontline warriors, who have been working hard day and night to liberate us from the clutches of the pandemic.
Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Y Khemchand Singh, IPR minister Th Biswajit Singh and Agriculture minister O Lukhoi also extended their greetings and warm wishes on the occasion of 75th Independence Day.
In their messages, the trio remembered and saluted the freedom fighters, valiant soldiers for their bravery and sacrifice to attain the freedom we enjoy.
