Women drug users' issues discussed

A State consultation and dissemination meeting on "Gender based violence amongst women who use drugs in Manipur" was held at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong today.
The programme organised by India HIV/AIDS Alliance and Nirvana Foundation with the assistance of India HIV/AIDS Alliance Frontline was attended by Manipur State Commission for Women Chairperson Dr Meinam Binota, Nirvana Foundation secretary S Sobhana, Manipur State Aids Control Society Project Director Haobam Rosita and Joint Director Abhiram Mongjam as presidium members.
The consultation raised concern on the rising number of women drug users in the State and called for identification of the cause and measures to curb drug abuse.
Women drug users should be enabled to enjoy their rights and MSCW and State Government should take up steps to ensure them, said speakers at the event.
Speaking at the event, Sobhana said that the Nirvana Foundation under the India HTV/AIDS Alliance has been working for welfare of women drug users who are often victims of violence and abuse.
