Imphal, January 13 2025:
A delegation of Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, here on Monday to air their grievances and seek early resettlement of the displaced Meeteis of Moreh.
The delegation, led by MCM president M Thoiba, submitted a memorandum outlining the challenges faced by the community and urged the Governor to initiate necessary actions to address their plight.
In response, the Governor assured the MCM representatives that he would take appropriate measures to resolve their issues and work towards restoring normalcy in Moreh.
The Council highlighted the dire conditions of the displaced Meeteis, who have been living in relief camps and with friends or relatives under challenging circumstances.

It noted that the absence of a stable income and adequate support has left many families struggling to sustain themselves, while the future of their children hangs in uncertainty due to disrupted education.
Expressing concern over the plans to resume Indo-Myanmar trade and economic activities in Moreh even as the displaced Meeteis are unable to return to their homes, the Council pointed out that allowing trade to proceed without their resettlement would further marginalise and alienated the community.
Trade activities in Moreh cannot be meaningful or inclusive in the absence of the Meeteis, likening the situation to "clapping with one hand", it added.
The Council then conveyed the community's readiness to return to their homes and coexist peacefully with other communities in Moreh, as they had done before the recent upheavals, while urging the Governor to take sympathetic actions to address their grievances, so as to help them rebuild their lives, contribute to the local economy, and ensure a better future for their children.
