Imphal, October 12 2015:
Manipur JD (U) on Monday sneered at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pointing out that nothing has been done for the State in development front by the saffron party.
Visiting Manipur every week by Union ministers in turn are only "pretensions" because the BJP has given nothing to the State since the party came to power at the Centre, JD (U) Manipur Unit President M Tombi alleged while addressing a press meet at the party office.
He alleged that a lot of confrontations and confusion have marred the normal life of the State ever since the BJP Government was formed at the Centre.
It is questionable that the BJP has not yet presented anything to Manipur despite its tall claims, Tombi said.
The JD (U) leader said the BJP promised to blacktop the Imphal-Jiribam road within 100 days to raise it to a world class, even so the lifeline of Manipur still has an out-dated hanging bridge which is repaired frequently.
The BJP Government headed by Narendra Modi has completed one year and eight months and it is still reluctant to do anything for the State of Manipur, Tombi further alleged.
Expressing concern over the high incidence of looting and killing of drivers by armed miscreants in Koubru area, the State JD (U) president condemned both the State and Central Governments for allegedly unwilling to take up preventive measures to deal will such incidents.
Party secretary general Lien Gangte, who was also present during the pres meet, hailed the Centre for the Act East Policy, but he urged the State BJP to stop welcoming Union ministers, MPs and leaders to Manipur.
Gangte also alleged that the BJP Government does not want to provide even a small package to the State.
He said the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre has messed up all developmental schemes introduced by the UPA regime.
Gangte accused the BJP of having narrowed minded political motives and condemned the party for slicing development funds.
