A convention on protection and preservation of Kabui Tribe was held at MDU Hall, Yaiskul here today.
The convention was organized by Kabui Development Voluntary Organisation.
Speaking at the convention, Thaonaojam Iboyaima, President of Irabot Foundation Manipur, said that the Kabui tribe has been settling in the state of Manipur since time immemorial.
The names of places can be changed, however the names of tribes cannot be changed.
As such Kabui cannot be changed to another name, it has to remain as Kubui for all times.
We should all come together to protect and preserve Kabui tribe.
The convention which was presided by K Kajeichungpu Kabui unanimously took a number of resolutions.
While welcoming inclusion of various schedule tribes including Inpui, Rongmei, Liangmei, Zeme, Thangal and Mate in the Indian Constitution Schedule list, the convention, however, reacted sharply over inclusion of Inpui and Rongmei at serial number 8 of the Schedule List.
The convention maintained that they should place at serial number 35 and 36 .
Among other resolutions adopted, the convention decided to submit a memorandum to the Union government; to launch various agitations if Union government turns a deaf ear to the proposal; to entrust Kabui Development Voluntary Organisation with the responsibility of pursuing the proposal into action.
The function was also attended by KT Rehman, President of AMUCO, R Chandra Haomei of Zeliangrong Cultural Council and LS Guite, ex-President of AMESCO.
