Imphal, April 12 2013 :
Mortal remains of Ningombam Satyabhama was today claimed by her family and the JAC constituted against the murder and put to rest together with customary rites and rituals.
The mortal remains were brought to Kakwa Selungba Leikai, the native place of Satyabhama from JNIMS mortuary together with a procession which passed through Ayangpalli Road, Kongba and Singjamei.
N Satyabhama was found murdered at Bashikhong Loumanbi paddy fields on April 5.The JAC constituted against the murder refused to claim the corpse until all those culprits involved in the murder were booked.
As such, the corpse was lying in JNIMS mortuary till this morning.
In the meantime, Imphal East District Police announced that the corpse of Satyabhama would be disposed off if the same was not claimed by 2 pm today.
The JAC after holding a meeting with clubs of Kakwa and neighbouring areas this morning decided to claim the corpse.
During the course of the procession, the participants shouted slogans like, "Indian laws cannot protect women", "We don't have faith in Indian laws", "Enact laws which can protect women" etc.
Speaking to media persons, some JAC members maintained that the DGP's statement on the murder of Satyabhama was unacceptable.
Satyabhama was not murdered by Biju alone.
It was James who murdered Satyabhama.
Other murderers cannot be kept under protection while only Biju has been charged for the murder.
If police cannot book the real culprits, there is no point for them to wear police uniforms.
"Accept gallantry awards by fighting criminals not by killing innocent people on fabricated charges", they stated.
Claiming the corpse does not mean that the ongoing agitation against the murder would be called off.
The agitation would go on until and unless all the culprits are awarded befitting punishment, they maintained.
