Sit-in staged against attack by BJP workers

Alleging that BJP workers attacked a group of people including wife of NPP candidate in Mayang Imphal A/C Urikhinbam Ramesh on Friday evening, supporters of Ramesh staged sit-in protest at several places on Saturday.
The sit-in protests were held at Sekmaijin Thongam, Makha Leikai, Awang Leikai, Chirai, Motum Yangbi, Kokchai, Uchiwa, Uchiwa Kabui Khul, Uchiwa Wangbal, Samushang Shantipur, Laphupat Tera, Hiyangkhong Konuma, Khordak, Phoubakchao, Bengoon Ward no 9 and 10, Loukok and Mayang Imphal Ani Longbi.
Speaking to media persons at the Sekmaijin residence of Ramesh on Friday, his wife Neera recalled that she went to a relative's house in Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai.
While preparing to return after having discussion with the family, BJP workers who came in two Gypsy vehicles halted them.
Later, the workers pelted stones and fired several rounds at the house, she alleged, while adding that the workers even assaulted the women in the house.
Fortunately, timely intervention by a Mayang Imphal police team saved them.
Neera appealed ECI to look into the matter at the earliest and ensure free and fair conduct of election in Mayang Imphal A/C.On the other hand, alleging that BJP workers intimidated Congress workers after coming to the office of Congress located at Mayang Imphal Ani Longbi at gunpoint on Friday around 10 pm, supporters of Congress party staged sit-in protest at the same place.
A protestor identified as Ningthoujam Santi said that some BJP masked men came in two vehicles after threatening workers of NPP at the latter's office located opposite to Congress party office and intimidated the workers.
While condemning such act of BJP, she demanded police to arrest all those involved and seize the guns.
She further appealed to ECI to look into the matter and ensure free and fair conduct of the election.
