Brave, patriotic leaders need of hour: Ex-MLA

Coordinating Committee Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency observed Universal Human Rights Day at the Kwakeithel Akham Leikai residence of former MLA RK Anand on Tuesday.
The observance on the theme 'Our rights, our future, right now' held in, the context of 'Manipur and its crisis & the way forward' was attended by ex-MLAs O Joy and RK Anand, Manipur University law department head professor Y Premananda and elders of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assents bly constituency as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, RK Anand said there will be no Manipur in future sans emergence of people's representatives who do not think for the party but make the sacrifice for Manipur.
"Few groups of people reaping benefits from ministers and MLAs might not Wish for imposition of President's Rule in Manipur but majority of people are yearning for replacement of the incumbent chief minister and all the present MLAs," he claimed.
According to RK Anand, the present crisis could have been averted if Manipur had brave and patriotic leaders.
Amid the crisis, there is apprehension over whether Manipur could withstand intense and diabolic process to disintegrate the state.
Accordingly, Manipur need brave and intelligent leaders fully conversant with law to tackle the situation, he added.
In his speech, O Joy said there is talk of breaking down Manipur to form three territorial councils amidst the more than 18 months of violence.
In addition to this, there is talk of creating a Christian nation in the region.
However, disintegration of Manipur or not shall depend on stand of those representing the people in the assembly, he said.
