Imphal, April 11 2015 :
BJP Manipur Pradesh is still wants the Centre to repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers' Act (AFSPA) from Manipur.
In an exclusive interview with Newmai News Netwrok, BJP Manipur Pradesh President Th Chaoba said that the Act has been "terrorising" the people of Manipur for several years.
He said that it is very unfortunate for the Congress-led State Government to stay blind and deaf to the atrocities faced by the people under AFSPA.
Even though AFSPA cannot be repealed by the State Government, it could have lifted the disturbed area status, which is well within its capability, Chaoba added.
Th Chaoba also said that removing Disturbed Area Status is a State matter and State subject.
He appealed the people not to be disappointed with the recent rejection of the recommendations made by the Jeevan Reddy Commission by the Centre.
The BJP leader also said that the poor and inefficient administration and governance in Manipur were responsible for the State receiving less funds meant for the State.
He cited the example of mismanagement after the recruitment of over 10,000 VDF personnel in the State, far exceeded the required personnel strength of 2000 .
