Stay calm, beware of misinformation: CS

Chief secretary PK Singh has urged all citizens to remain calm and not fall prey to unverified news, rumours or misinformation that may cause unnecessary panic or disrupt peace and harmony in the state.
In a press statement, the chief secretary said that the government has taken note of certain unscrupulous individuals and groups who/which may deliberately attempt to incite unrest, disrupt harmony and spread fear among the public using false information, inflammatory content or fabricated narratives.
"Such attempts, aimed at creating lawlessness, are strongly condemned, and the public are strongly advised not to give heed to misinformation or incitement" .
To ensure that people receive accurate information, the government has set up a control room where citizens can verify any news or information they come across.
The control room, which is operational round-the-clock, can be reached at 9485280419, the statement said.
Emphasising that maintaining peace and law and order is a collective responsibility, the chief secretary advised all residents to remain vigilant against those trying to create disturbances.
"Any attempt to incite violence or disrupt harmony will be dealt with strictly as per the law," he cautioned.
The government has also called upon community leaders, civil society organisations, religious leaders, student organisations, intellectuals and citizens to come together to foster unity and work towards rebuilding trust amongst all communities.
Prioritising peace, understanding and development, the government urged the public to work towards the betterment of the state and to also contact the control room or their nearest authorities for any clarifications, reiterating its commitment to keeping the state safe, peaceful and united.
