Violence worries Guv, appeals for peace

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has expressed deep concern over the spurt of violent incidents in the state, stating that peace and people's cooperation are the only means which can bring societal development.
Manipur the land of jewels' is not an exception.
This state for a long time has been an important entity for taking all round development of India to a greater height.
However, it has been seen that the state for the last few months has been on turmoil.
Some unpleasant incidents gave a severe jolt to the dedicated efforts of the central and state governments towards restoring peace and normalcy in the state, a Raj Bhavan release quoted the Governor as saying.
According to PRO Raj Bhavan, the Governor felt that violence is not the solution to any problem and everyone will have to contribute and find ways to overcome this problem.
In his bid to solve the problem with the help Of public, the Governor is constantly speaking to public leaders, students and the people in general.
Moreover, dedicated efforts are being made in this regard, it conveyed.
The Governor appealed to all sections of the society, student organisations and public leaders to work together for restoring peace and helping Manipur to scale a new height of growth and development.
On the other-hand, Governor Acharya is scheduled to leave for Guwahati, Assam on Wednesday.
Acharya is currently the Governor of Assam and is exercise additional charge of Manipur.
He had planned to visit Guwahati on Monday but cancelled the trip due to escalating law and order situation in the state after widespread protests by students.
On Monday, large numbers of students gathered in front of Raj Bhavan and met Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.
The Governor assured to fulfil demands of the students within 24 hours.
Accordingly, the agitating students gathered at Khwairamband Keithel and stayed the night waiting for the dateline set by the Governor to fulfil their demands.
However, clashes erupted between the students and security forces as they tried to march towards Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
