SDFK chief slain, bodyguard injured

Imphal, September 10 2021:
A combined team of Loktak Battalion of Assam Rifles and Churachandpur police station shot down non-SoO group Socialist Democratic Front of Kukiland (SDFK)'s self-styled commander in-chief Letminthang Haokip alias Boithang of M Songgel village in Churachandpur district and injured his bodyguard Lunkhosei Chongloi of CAisan, Saikul sub-division, Kangpokpi during a joint operation carried out at Khominthang village, New Lamka on Friday.
According to police reports and AR release, based on specific input about presence of Letminthang Haokip and one of his cadres in Khominthang village, a special operation was launched by the combined team.
Around 2 am, as the security team surrounded a specific house, an exchange of fire ensued during which Letminthang succumbed to injuries, while Lunkhosei Chongloi was found injured and taken to Churachandpur District Hospital from where he was referred to Imphal for further treatment.
During search of the house which the two were holed in, the security team seized three 9mm pistols with three magazines, two hand-held radio sets, 282 rounds of 9mm and one Honda Activa.
Sources stated that Lunkhosei has been taken to JNIMS Hospital for treatment.
A Covid test was done of the deceased UG and was found positive.
Later, his body was taken to RIMS Imphal Morgue.
It may be mentioned that, there were reports of Boithang and his group indulging in extortion of various village chiefs, shops and other business establishments in and around Churachandpur town especially in luibong Bazar area for the past one month with seven cases registered against them.
Churachandpur police station has registered a case in this regard and further investigation is going on.
