Intensified campaign on TB launched in IE, CCpur

District Health Society (DHS), National TB Elimination Programme, Imphal East on Mon day launched the 100-Day Intensified Campaign on Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination for Imphal East district at Panchayat Bhavan, Imphal East DC Complex.
Speaking as chief guest at the programme, Imphal East ADM Dr N Johnson exhorted all to strive for eliminating TB from India and reduce it to a mere chapter in history book for coming generation as done in the case of polio.
Mentioning that TB, once a dreaded disease, is now 100 per cent curable, he informed that people who have weak immune system, diabetes or are elderly are susceptible to the disease.
As diabetic patients are on the rise in the state, awareness on TB should be made widespread for such people and encourage to undergo tests.
Moreover, due to internally displaced persons (IDPs) vulnerable to getting infected wijh TB owing to mental stress, relief camp administrators should raise awareness on TB and screen persons if they cough frequently, he said.
The event was also attended by Imphal East chief medical officer (CMO) Dr L Indira Devi and JHPEIGO state programme manager Ngaseppam Monota as presidium members.
Meanwhile, as part of the National TB Elimination Campaign and National Health Mission Programme for TB-free India, Churachandpur CMO Van-lalkungi on Monday launched 100-Day Intensified Campaign on Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination for Churachandpur district at District TB Centre.
During the launch function, the CMO said that the Health Department intends to detect and treat all TB patients from the community of Churachandpur district through the campaign, while adding that the Health Department aims to reduce diagnosis of TB and prevent the neglect of TB patients.
She further mentioned that to ensure proper treatment of TB patients, encourage TB preventive therapy and make the denizens aware about TB, the TB elimination campaign has been initiated.
Dr Vanlalkungi also urged the people, all stakeholders and voluntary organisations of the district to extend co-operation for examining HIV-infected persons, diabetes and amongst those vulnerable groups for elimination of TB.
It may be mentioned that the 100-Day Intensified Campaign on TB Elimination started on December 7, shall focus on identifying and treating TB cases, infections, using advanced screening tool.
District TB Officer in-charge Dr Jamthianlal, ZEO and ICDs officials were also present at the function.
