Over five acres of poppies destroyed in CCpur dist

Imphal, February 09 2025: The Assam Rifles in collaboration with Manipur police destroyed over five acres of illicit poppy cultivation in the general area of G Monglian village under Sangaikot subdivision in Churachandpur district on Saturday.

The drive conducted from the early hours till late afternoon was also participated by forest officials and staff of forest department and Churachadpur district administration.

According to a statement PRO IGAR (S), destruction of poppy fields is a critical step in addressing the root cause of drug addiction and illegal trade network that threatens the social and economic fabric of Manipur.

This operation underscores Assam Rifles' dedication in ensuring peace and security in Manipur, especially amidst the ongoing ethnic tensions, said the PRO, adding that such actions have far-reaching implications for the community in achieving healthier society and protecting vulnerable youth from addiction.

Further, it sends a strong message against unlawful activities, reinforcing the rule of law, the statement added.
