Poll roll for local body polls on Sept 12

Imphal, September 08 2022: With the initiation of the process for conduct of Urban Local Body election which could not be held for a long time due to COVID-19 pandemic, preparations have been made to publish preliminary electoral rolls for the election on September 12.Accordingly, the State Election Commission, Manipur has directed electoral registration ofhcers/SDOs to take up necessary actions for finalisation of electoral rolls for the conduct of elections to the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat including Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC).

It said that relevant electoral registration officers/SDOs should publish preliminary electoral rolls to be prepared constituency-wise on September 12 while claim and objection for the same could be done within September 19 .

Final electoral rolls for the elections will be published on September 23, it said while informing relevant officials to take up all necessary actions to ensure that the electoral rolls are published within the stipulated date.

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission has appointed district municipal election officers for municipal council, Nagar Panchayat and IMC elections.

DC Imphal East has been made district municipal election officer for the elections with regard to IMC Ward No 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 26, Andro municipal council and Lamlai municipal council while DC Imphal West has been made district municipal election officer for election matters of IMC Ward No 1-17, 24, 25 and 27.DC Imphal West will also be district municipal election officer for Mayang Imphal Municipal Council, Lilong (imphal West) Municipal Council, Shamurou Municipal Council, Wangoi Municipal Council, Thongkhong Lux-mi bazar Municipal Council, Sekmai Nagar Panchayat and Lamsang Nagar Panchayat elections.

The commission also made DC Thoubal as district municipal election officer for Thoubal, Yairipok, Sikhong Sekmai, Wangjing Lamding and Lilong (Thoubal) Municipal Council elections as well as for Heirok Nagar Panchayat election.

DC Kakching too has been made district municipal election officer for Kakching Municipal Council, Kakching Khunou Municipal Council and Sugnu Municipal Council elections.

In another order, the commission made DC Bishnupur as district municipal election officer for Nambol, Oinam, Bishnupur, Ningthoukhong, Moirang, Kwakta and Kumbi Municipal Council elections and DC Jiribam as district municipal election officer for Jiribam Municipal Council election.

Mention may be made that the State Election Commission had on August 26 discussed with DCs of hill districts about publication of preliminary electoral rolls for the conduct of Autonomous District Council (ADC) election at the earliest possible time and is likely that the draft electoral rolls for ADC election could be published within a short period.
