Imphal, September 08 2021:
Central government provides food, medical facilities and shelter to people at the time of emergency under Disaster Management Act but those in the government talk as if such relief materials and medical facilities are being provided from their own pockets, stated Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary Punamrani Wangkhem.
Punamrani made this remark while distributing edible items in the name of her late younger brother Vivekraj Wangkhem to every household of Irilbung Kalika and Irilbung Machahal village under Kshetrigao assembly constituency on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, Punamrani said that those in the government including the chief minister is talking of providing rice and medicine including COVID-19 vaccine to people while encountering second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
However, making such remarks including from the chief minister is very unfortunate as these remarks not only affect dignity of the people but also amount to dishonouring of people.
During the time of emergency, Central government provides food, medical facilities and shelter to people and it is the legitimate rights of the people to get such facilities under Disaster Management Act.
However, those in the government are talking of providing such facilities as if from their own pockets, which indeed is not correct, Punamrani said and appealed to all concerned not to make such irresponsible remark anymore.
She then called for proper implementation of Disaster Management Act so that people could get their entitled rights in time.
Punamrani visited Irilbung Machahal village and provided edible items to every household in coordination with Irilbung Youth Club and then visited Irilbung Kalika village to provide the same.
