Governor highlights Govt's feats, public air inadequacies
Source: Chronicle News Service / DIPR

Imphal, July 08 2022: Governor La Ganesan on Friday visited Sugnu in Kakching district and had an interaction with MLAs, district level officers, pradhans, civil society organisations and public in a programme organised by the Kakching district administration at Ching-tam community hall, Sugnu.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor contended that though the world is facing unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, prompt and concerted effort by the government has brought the situation almost under control.

Nevertheless, he cautioned that the number of positive cases is increasing in the past few days in the state and appealed to all sections of the society to get vaccinated as it is the best way to defeat the pandemic.

"We may not be able to eradicate this dreaded disease forthwith but we will be able to keep it under control.

Therefore, to keep under control and prevent it, vaccination is a must.

The relentless efforts of health workers and front-line warriors are indeed commendable and praiseworthy by one and all", he added.

The Governor also appreciated the central government's commitment to eliminate TB from the soil of India by 2025 and suggested conduct of a survey of TB patients in the Kakching district to enable the department concerned to carry out appropriate remedial measures.

La Ganesa also noted the state government's efforts to stop poppy cultivation to contain and prevent drugs abuse but expressed disappointment over reports of increasing drug users among the youth in the state.

"This has to be, in any case, prevented with collective efforts involving like-minded civil society organisations and general public.

This will be possible only by collective efforts and not individual effort", he added.

The Governor then said that the state government has taken up massive tree plantation programmes but was shocked to learn that few sections of our people resisted tree plantation programmes at few places, which is a bad precedent.

This is not in the interest of few sections of the society, but it is in the interest of the people of the globe, Ganesan said as he appealed to all both in valley and hills not to resist such noble effort in future.

On the use of plastics, the Governor said that the government has banned use of single use plastics from July 1."The ill-effects of use of plastic is really horrible in our human life.

Therefore, everybody should co-operate in banning the use of plastic in your localities", he stressed.

The Governor also said that Swachh Bharat Mission, a clean India campaign, is the responsibility of all citizens of the country.

It is a mass movement launched by the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi to achieve the vision of a Clean India .

The mission is intended to cover all the rural, urban areas and hill districts for maintaining cleanliness across the country.

One important component of the campaign is elimination of open defecation in the country.

Manipur is well advanced on this front and large parts of the state have been declared as open defecation free.

Cleanliness would keep everyone happy and healthy in all respects physically, mentally, socially and intellectually by reducing the chance of diseases and hope that this will continue on regular basis here also.

Efforts of district and sub-divisional level officers with full cooperation from the general public will keep the sub-division clean and green by strengthening the existing green environment and also by developing new' green cover in the district, the Governor continued.

People expressed their happiness as it was the first time a Governor of Manipur ever visited the district.

During the interaction programme, people shared their grievances of shortage of doctors and staff at their Primary Health Centres, and lack of infrastructure at their hospital, shortage of teachers in government schools, pathetic road condition and lack of women police.

Meanwhile, Kakching CMO informed that 79 per cent of the district's population has been vaccinated.

Replying to the grievances of the people, the Governor assured all that whatever problems highlighted by the public, DLOs, CSOs as well as the representatives of the constituencies, the related and important matters will be referred to the state government for taking immediate necessary action.

Regarding the pathetic road conditions, the Governor said; "We need to wait patiently for completion of road construction which is still in progress".

Later, he interacted with DLOs of Kakching district at Sugnu Municipal Council.

The interaction programme was attended by Hiyanglam MLA D Radheshyam Yumnam, Sugnu MLA K Ranjit Singh and Kakching DC Somorjit Salam among others.
