MLA pledges to make Tamenglong plastic-free

World Environment Day was observed at Untied Builder School, Tamenglong district headquarters on the theme 'Only One Earth'.
The programme organised by Rainforest Club, Tamenglong in collaboration with Tamenglong district administration and Tamenglong Forest Division, was attended by Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei as chief guest and 5th MR commandant Ningshem Vashum as guest of honour Speaking at the event, Janghemlung Panmei pledged to make Tamenglong plastic-free district.
He also pointed out many developmental works such as construction of Tamenglong-Mohur road, widening of Tamenglong-Khongsang road, ADB-funded road projects and railway works are being carried out in the district.
As implementation of such structural projects necessitates uprooting or cutting down of many trees, we need to plant more trees this year, he stressed and suggested that organisers of the observance function conduct mass tree plantation next month in the district.
He also noted that Tamenglong is gifted with green forest and urged the gathering to make Tamenglong as tourist hotspot.
The World Environment Day observance in Tamenglong was also attended by Tamenglong SDO Rohit Anand and Tousem SDO Paul Nangsha as guests of honour.
Among others, Kyamgei Covid Hospital medical superintendent Dr Chambo Gonmei, who is also Rainforest Club, Tamenglong Honorary Wildlife Warden Nehemiah Panmei, church leaders, CSO leaders and youth were among those who took part in the programme during which a Photography Competition in two categories namely Mobile Phone and DSLR camera was also organised.
The observance was also organsied at Model Residential School Rengpang, Noney district by Noney Forest Division in collaboration with Longmai Nature Club.
