Inter-Village Tribal dance competition

44 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) conducted an Inter village Tribal Dance Competition in Kamjong Village of Ukhrul District as part of Op Sadbhavana Programme on 03 March 2014 .
According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S), the Tribal Dance Competition held at Kamjong village was first of its kind to rejuvenate the dying folk dance and traditional customs of the area and teams from border villages and also from Imphal participated and made the event splendid.
Apart from traditional tribal dance and songs competitions, local youth also participated in various other competitions that gave an impetus to various sporting events such as Spear Throwing, Archery and Catapult shooting used by the tribals for hunting since ages.
The enthusiasm and zeal was evident as the conducting unit had to limit the numbers of participants in each event as most of the local youth wanted to take part in these sporting events.
The event was attended by over 1000 denizens from neighbouring villages and also teams from as far as Imphal.
The unit was assisted by prominent youth groups of Chassad Youth Society and Kamjong Katanao Long that assisted the Assam Rifles in getting closer to the youth of the area.
Heavy cash prizes with trophies were given to the winners and the runner up teams.
Individual prizes were also given to the winners and runners up of the sporting events.
The winner of the Tribal Dance competition was the team from DM College of Science, Imphal and the runner up was Chassad Youth Club.
