Imphal, February 05 2025:
What action BJP Manipur Pradesh will take against its spokespersons who contradicted chief minister N Biren Singh's speech in the state assembly by claiming that the Article 355 had been enforced in the state long ago, demanded Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Kh Debabrata.
Coming down heavily on BJP Manipur Pradesh spokespersons namely, K Sarat and M Suresh for misleading the public by misinterpreting the speech delivered by Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam in the Parliament and contradicting CM Biren's statement in the assembly regarding imposition of Article 355, Debabrata said that Congress would consider BJP as a political party encouraging liars if it fails to take action against K Sarat and M Suresh.
"Congress party will wait for clarification from either the chief minister or from the two BJP spokespersons and initiate legal proceedings if they fail to do so," declared the Congress party's working president during a press conference at Congress Bhawan Wednesday.
According to Kh Debabrata, chief minister N Biren, in response to Congress MLA K Ranjit during the last assembly session, had informed the House that Article 355 has not been invoked in the state.
"In complete contrast to what the state CM had declared in the House, BJP spokespersons K Sarat and M Suresh claimed that Article 355 had long been enforced in the state.
If claims of the BJP spokespersons have any substance, then chief minister Biren had misled the people that too on the floor of the House," Debabrata reasoned and demanded clarification from the chief minister on the matter.
Lambasting Sarat and Suresh for misleading public vis-a-vis speech delivered by MP Bimol in the Lok Sabha while discussing the President's address, Kh Debabrata accused BJP Manipur Pradesh of irrelevantly bringing up the issue on village volunteers.
He clarified that Bimol's statement had nothing to do with village volunteers.
While asserting that Congress party had always urged the state government to protect village volunteers and even suggested enactment of a law to shield them, Kh Debabrata recalled the speech made by deputy CLP leader K Ranjit in the House calling for granting amnesty to village volunteers who took up arms for protecting their villages.
"As a parliamentarian, MP Bimol had only raised concerns over deprivation of people's rights and constitutional breakdown in Manipur along with highlighting issues related to fundamental rights, plight of 60,000 people languishing in relief camps, disappearance of Kamal Babu from inside army garrison," he maintained and rubbished allegations levelled by the BJP spokespersons against the MP .
