Imphal, December 04 2015 :
Villagers of Torbung in Bishnupur District on Thursday demanded the State Government to immediately shift the police packet opened at Torbung Ward-3 to control law and order in the area.
It may be mentioned that the Government opened the police packet to avoid happening of untoward incidents in the area due to the Churachandpur violence which emerged after passing three bills in the State Legislative Assembly on August 31 last.
During an interaction with media persons at Manipur Press Club, Imphal on Thursday, Torbung Gram Panchayat Pradhan Sapam Rajen recalled that violence emerged in Churachandpur after the Government passed three bills in the assembly with an aim to protect the State's indigenous people.
A police packet under the jurisdiction of Churachandpur Police was opened at Torbung Ward-3 to avoid any untoward incidents due to the violence, said Rajen and added the area acturaly comes under the jurisdiction of Torbung in Bishnupur District.
Rajen further said that the area comes under the control of Bishnupur Police.
However, the police packet was opened by crossing boundary of another district.
Phougaochao Ikhai PS also exists just in the zero mile distance from the police packet and opening of a new police packet in the zero mile distance of a police station is not reasonable, added Rajen.
The Pradhan also mentioned that personnel posted at the police packet on December 1 last unreasonably conducted search operation to around five houses of Torbung at around 7.30 pm.
One Asangbam Adhitya (22), son of Tejkumar was also whisked away by them but luckily managed to save by the villagers, recalled Rajen.
Kangbai village and number of tribal villagers stormed to the Torbung village but police personnel of Bishnupur and Churachandpur managed to avoid happening of any untoward incident, added the pradhan.
Rajen also admitted that personnel of the police packet frequently harassed villagers of Torbung.
Blaming the police packet for trying to fuel communal feelings among the neighbouring villages, Rajen demanded the Government to immediately shift the police packet from the area.
Urging the Home Department and the Government to immediately look into the matter, Rajen also warned the State Government to bear all the responsibilities of any unwanted incident.
He also appealed the Government to inaugurate the Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station at the earliest.
The media interaction was also attended by many villagers of Torbung.
