According to COCOMI women wing coordinator Leirik Leima, Ningol Chakkouba festival could not be celebrated last year due to the violence since May, 2023 but the committee called for celebrating the festival this year in the spirit of righteousness despite the lingering violence.

Addressing media persons at COCOMI office Monday, Leirik Leima said the war launched by Kuki terrorists against the Meetei community since May 3, 2023 has severely affected economy of the state with the commoners affected the most due to limited livelihood activities.
However, choosing of local products as gifts for Ningol Chakkouba festival instead of relying on imported ones was a good sign for improving the economy at least to some extent, she said and stressed the need for preserving indigenous culture and tradition.
She appealed people to continue purchasing products made by the displaced people.
