Imphal, October 04 2014 :
The Indo-Myanmar Fraternal Alliance (IMFA) is taking a 23-member team of Rasheshwori Pala to Myanmar on October 5 to visit the Meitei diaspora in Mandalay and Rangoon cities of the neighbouring country.
The 13-day trip is organized by the IMFA during which the Rasheshwori Pala team will visit homes and localities of Myanmarese-Meiteis in Mandalay and Rangoon, RK Shivachandra said on Saturday.
During the trip the team will also visit every temple of Meitei God and Goddesses in the two cities and perform ritual ceremonies to change the clothes worn by the deities with new ones.
The Meiteis are Hindu minorities in the Buddhist-dominated country.
Shivachandra regretted that most of the Meiteis in Myanmar have chosen to speak Burmese language neglecting their native language unlike other Indian people like Punjabi and Bengali in that country.
He said the IMFA is organising the road trip after seeking permission from the Myanmar authorities and added that a similar tour was earlier conducted by the association.
