Imphal, August 04 2015:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) has stated it will not accept the peace accord signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) on August 3 in New Delhi if it threatens the territorial integrity of Manipur.
People are now all prepared to battle against any policy that aims to disintegrate the State's territorial integrity, UCM President Elangbam Johnson told during a press meet at the committee office on Tuesday.
Johnson said both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister should make unambiguous statements in the Parliament on the peace accord which also should be made public.
The Manipur Government should also make it known to the people, Johnson demanded and reiterated that any Naga peace deal must not affect the interests of other States.
The UCM President further said any plan for implementation of Sixth Schedule in the Hills must not be slotted in the peace deal, adding that the committee will always reject it in keeping with the stance taken in several public meetings in this regard.
Johnson said the June 18 episode in Manipur was triggered by the BJP and that the party is now in power at the Centre and so people need serious contemplation on the peace accord.
UCM Vice President Sunil Karam expressed suspicion on the peace agreement which was signed without revealing the facts to the people.
He stated that the Government of India must not harm the interest of a community to fulfill an unacceptable political aspiration of another community and called upon the people to remain alert.
