Imphal, August 03 2024:
Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal is one of the most reputed universities in the north-eastern region with around 30 agriculture and allied sectors under its wing.
However, posers have been raised whether some powerful individuals have been given free rein to run the university or interfere in its affairs including appointment of employees even after superannuation.
According to a reliable source, former CAU College of Agriculture dean Prof Indira Sarangthem, who attained the age of 65 years and was superannuated, was re-employed as the professor of Soil Sciences at the College of Agriculture under CAU on July 31.Prof Indira was relieved from her post after observing all official formalities, as per an order (CAU/Registrar/2536/PF/19) issued by CAU registrar TR Sharma on July 31.On the same day itself, the registrar issued another order on behalf of CAU VC Anupam Mishra employing Prof Indira as professor of Soil Sciences, College of Agriculture in accordance with the recommendation made during the 60th CAU Selection Committee and 60th Board of Board of Management meeting held on July 23.The order further stated that Prof Indira will continue to hold charge of College of Agriculture dean and director of Instruction until further orders.
The source revealed that faculty and staff have been left dissatisfied following flouting of the university rules.
The wilful actions of the higher officials have also tainted the reputation of the university.
Furthermore, it is possible that the line of promotion of various faculties and their rights could be violated in the future.
As per the rules, an individual whose service period has expired should not be allowed to be in charge of administrative posts, dead and director (instruction) .
At present, there are rules for appointing dean in-charge until a regular post is appointed.
Thus, such actions have demoralised and left the teaching, scientists and non-teaching staff demotivated.
