Imphal, December 02 2024:
National People's Party (NPP) national vice president Yumnam Joykumar has said that after withdrawing its support from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Manipur, some prominent people of the state will soon be joining the NP.
On Monday, NPP welcomed its new office bearers, namely Laitonjam Jayananda (Information Technology and Frontal Organisation secretary), Nonibala Sapam (Women Wing Manipur president) and Nongthombam Bidyarani (NPYF state president), in a function held at the party's Naoremthong office.
Speaking on the occasion, Joykumar reasoned that NPP withdrew support to the state BJP government after the latter failed to curb the violence in the state.
Previously, the people viewed NPP as BJP itself.
However, since it has parted from BJP, many prominent people are now preparing to join NPP and the reception function will be held early next year.
The party is also making preparations to contest in the upcoming election including identifying the candidates to be fielded in the constituencies, he informed.
Responding to questions on what action NPP will be taking against the party MLAs who attended press conferences or meetings convened by the ruling government despite a party advisory against the same; Joykumar said that the MLAs concerned will be responsible for any consequences resulting from working against the advisory issued by the party president.
The party will do the needful, he added.
