Woman commits suicide, family cries foul

Imphal, November 02 2013 : A 32-year-old housewife reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Sinjamei Meisnam Leikai Tomal Leirak in Imphal West district last night, but the victim's family has said it was a suspicious death.

Moirangthem Ningol RK Ongbi Gyaneshwori, wife of RK Sanatomba, left behind a one-year-old daughter.

Police reports said the husband has been taken into custody for questioning on the alleged suicide case.

Sources in her parental home at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai in Imphal West District said the husband's family did not provide information on her death to them.

Some individuals from the locality shared the information to the family.

Initially, the husband's family had told that Gyaneshwori was being hospitalised at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) following a road mishap.

Upon reaching the hospital, they found her body at the mortuary.

The husband's family claimed that her death was a suicide case.

However, they are not buying the story telling several bruise marks were found all over her body including the neck.

The family disagreed Sanatomba's claim that he did not know anything about the incident that occurred around 3 pm Yesterday, saying he was also inside the room when Gyaneshwori took the alleged extreme step.

He was found taking refuge at Singjamei Police Station not long after her death, they said.

Properties and belongings of his family were also moved to another place and at the same time the police and local residents were guarding the house.

The victim's family said they would not take the body because they need to take a final decision on it.

An FIR case has been registered at Singjamei Police Station regarding the incident and started looking into it.
