Governor yearns for return of peace in state

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya inaugurated the "Peace through Culture & Identity cum 2-Day Exhibition and Traditional Buffet" at the Astro Turf Ground, Senapati here on Friday.
Organised by Manipur North Economic Development Association (MANEDA), the event aims to celebrate cultural unity and foster peace.
Speaking as the chief guest, Governor Acharya extended Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba greetings to the people of Manipur, expressing his pleasure at being part of the celebrations in Senapati district.
He remarked that the event's theme "Peace through Culture" reflects Manipur's identity as a diverse and culturally rich state that has always embraced inclusivity.
He highlighted Manipur's distinctive cultural heritage, describing it as a unique treasure that unites various communities in a spirit of harmony and brotherhood.
The Governor stressed the importance of community-building, saying that while Manipur's communities are diverse in culture and tradition, they share a common goal of creating a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous society.
Brotherhood, he said, teaches acceptance and unity beyond differences, forming bonds that strengthen the social fabric.
He commended the organisations, families, and individuals who work every day to strengthen these bonds and cultivate a culture of kindness, compassion and mutual support.
Expressing gratitude for community initiatives and educational efforts, the Governor acknowledged the vital role of organisations and schools in educating youth on tolerance, dialogue, and cooperation, which are essential for a peaceful future.
He praised the enthusiasm displayed by all attendees, rioting that their spirited participation in traditional crafts, dances, and songs beautifully reflected Manipur's vibrant cultural legacy.
In closing, Governor Acharya extended his heartfelt appreciation to the people of Manipur for their commitment to the state's development and welfare, stating, "Together, we are building a brighter future, marked by progress, inclusivity, and unity.
Let us continue to work hand in hand, guided by a shared vision of prosperity for all" .
He thanked everyone for their perseverance and belief in collective potential, adding, "Together, we will achieve great things".
In his welcome note, MANEDA president Kamba Moses highlighted that the event fosters a deeper appreciation for fellow citizens of Manipur and urged everyone to stand united in the pursuit of peace and love.
Naga People's Organization, Senapati District Students' Association, and Senapati District Women's Association also extended their greetings.
As a symbolic gesture, Governor Acharya planted trees, symbolising care for the environment, and released pigeons alongside DC Senapati Mamoni Doley as symbols of peace.
The event featured an action song by students of Innocent Smile School and folk songs by Mao Karong Women Society and Rikhumai Taphou Women Society.
The Hope Home Children of MANEDA performed a special song "Let's All Dwell Together" in multiple languages.
Governor Acharya then officially opened the two-day exhibition and traditional buffet before departing for Imphal.
