Thamnapokpi attacked, Moreh searched

Kuki militants attacked Thamnapokpi village in Imphal East district, inhabited by the Meetei community, with uninterrupted firing from 9pm on Thursday but the militants fled after large number of state force personnel rushed to the village and returned fire.
According to a police source, Kuki militants launched attack at Thamnapokpi village using sophisticated weapons from 9 pm onwards on Thursday.
State force personnel and volunteers present in the village retaliated thereby leading to exchange of fire between the two sides.
Upon getting the report, a combined team of state force deployed in valley districts rushed to the village and fired towards the militants.
Due to heavy firing from the combined state forces, Kuki militants stopped firing and left the area.
The combined force stayed at the fringe village till midnight even though the Kuki militants had ceased firing.
They retreated from the village later after no firing came from the side of militants, the source said, adding that no casualty was reported in the fire-fight.
On the other-hand, a combined team of Assam Rifles and Moreh police conducted search operation in Moreh and recovered huge cache of weapons including lEDs that were abandoned by unidentified people near Hotel Elora.
According to a police source, a combined team of Moreh police led by additional SP (Ops) Moreh and OC Moreh police station along with troops of 5 and 25 AR conducted search operation from 4.30am on Friday based on specific report of some unidentified people caching weapons near Hotel Elora area at about 4am.During the operation, no suspicious person was detected but found a sack on the top floor of an abandoned house near Hotel Elora at about 6.50 am.
When opened, the sack was found containing a .38 pistol with magazine and two rounds, 10 country-made IED, three 36 HE grenades, 85 rounds of 7.62m calibre for carbine machinegun and 10 rounds of AK rifles of 7.62m calibre.
Moreh PS has registered an FIR for further investigation.
