Speaking at the event, Biswajit pointed out that power is the most important requirement for a country or a region to become industrialised and expressed satisfaction that Manipur will now have sufficient and surplus power supply.
The minister asserted that one of the biggest achievements of the present government is that the state now has a capacity of around 1000 kv power supply.
He said that despite all the shortages, the two companies - Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited and Manipur State Power Company Limited under the present government have made many achievements with the limited resources available and some help from the ministry.
Minister Biswajit recalled that earlier Wangoi area used to receive poor quality of power as power was fed partly from Mongsangei and Mayang Imphal and due to the long distance, the end-points used to receive poor quality power.
He then said that the inauguration of the Wangoi 33/11 kv sub-station will now provide quality power to the public of the area and adjoining villages including Kodompokpi, Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar, Oinam Leikai, Bitra Urokhong and some parts of Lilong, etc.
Power supply in Yairipok area was earlier fed partly from Kongba and Thoubal sub-stations, but now the newly inaugurated 33/11 kv sub-station will provide quality power to people of the area and adjoining villages including Yambem, Andro, Kaina, Poiroukhongjin, Khoirom, Chandrakhong, Tangkhul village, etc, he added.
Further in his speech, the minister said that under the present government, the state has also witnessed huge improvement in the condition of roads.
He said that except for some stretches where road improvement works are being undertaken, the condition of all highways including the Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal-Jiribam have also improved tremendously.
He continued that Mani-pur today is witnessing huge traffic congestion and in order to resolve this problem, elevated highways project will be sanctioned soon as tender for consultancy has already been completed.
Minister Biswajit also said that the Act East Policy will be hugely beneficial for the state as Manipur is the doorway or India's corridor to the South East Asian countries.
Saying that the COVID-19 vaccine is safe, the minister appealed to all to take the vaccine and further encouraged the ongoing campaign of "Vaccine for All, Vaccine for Free".
Addressing the gathering, tourism minister O Lukhoi applauded the locals for their support and cooperation in the construction of the power sub-station and further sought cooperation for smooth functioning of the sub-station.
The Wangoi 33/11 kv sub-station was Funded under the IPDS and state plan with a total cost of Rs 842 crore; while the Yairipok 33/11 kv sub-station was funded under the IPDS and state plan with a total cost of Rs 9.32 crore.
The Power Finance Corporation is the Nodal Agency for the projects executed under IPDS.
