Ideals of Indira Gandhi recalled

As in other parts of the country, Government of Manipur observed Rastriya Sankalp Diwas (National Re-dedication Day) marking the death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi today.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the observance function organized under the aegis of state Home Department at the banquet hall of Ist Manipur Rifles here, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said that late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life for the protection of integrity of the country and concentrated her mind and body for the welfare of the poor and downtrodden people.
Peaceful co-existence and harmony among the people was her basic principle and her true devotion was that India could never be divided under any circumstance, the Chief Minister said, while hailing late Indira Gandhi as one of the prominent world leaders who unrelentingly made efforts for improving relations with other countries as well.
Referring to the prevailing state of affairs in Manipur, Chief Minister Ibobi observed that the State has been witnessing frequent occurrence of violence during the last few years, thus creating a fear psychosis among the people.
The prevalent of violence has been one major stumbling block to the development of the State which is also detrimental in determining the future of the state, the Chief Minister said.
He also appealed to all the people to take a vow together on this day to take part in shaping the future of the state.
Home Minister Gaikhangam, who presided over the observance, said that instead of mere observance of the day, we need to understand and follow the principle of Indira Gandhi in practice.
Only then, the observance would be meaningful.
Minister of Social Welfare AK Mirabai, Minister of IFC I Hemochandra, Minister of Agriculture Md Nasir, other MLAs, DGP Y Joykumar, Chief Secretary DS Poonia and Chairpersons of Manipur State Women Commission and Minority Commission were also present on the occasion.
