Imphal, August 31 2014: Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal, Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long and Tangkhul People's Organisation, Imphal have strongly condemned Saturday's incident in which 2 persons were killed and several others injured during police firing to control a protest rally.

In a press conference held at Nagaram Community Hall today afternoon, Grace Satsang who is the President of Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long said that several organizations and people of Ukhrul had been demanding withdrawal of CrPc.

144 prohibition in Ukhrul.

As the state government lent a deaf ear to the demands, people of Ukhrul staged a peaceful rally to protest the situation in the district, he asserted.

If the government remains adamant to the voice of the Ukhrul people, a series of such unfortunate incidents may happen in future also, Grace Satsang cauationed.

Alleging that the government has allowed the Manipur Police Commandoes to misuse their powers, he claimed police pointed their guns straight to the innocent public and they did not blank fire to control the protest.

During the incident, 2 persons were killed in police firing on the spot and several vehicles parked beside the roads were damaged by police Commandoes, Grace claimed, while demanding immediate withdrawal of Police Commandoes and lifting of the CrPC.

144 prohibition from Ukhrul.

Besides assaulting a number of pedestrians, Police Commandoes also beat up women by calling them out from their houses, Grace further claimed.

Such barbaric incident of terrorizing the people by government forces must be condemned by all, she said, while adding that the state Government is responsible for the unrest and turmoil in Ukhrul.

Asking how long the government will continue with such attitude towards the people of Ukhrul, she further said that people should not be blamed for the reported lost of weapons from the security persons.

It is the responsibility of the security persons concerned, she added.

Meanwhile, the Somdal Youth and Cultural Club, in a statement, condemned the police action against the protesters in Ukhrul district headquarters on Saturday.

The statement signed by Ramshing Muivah, President of the club alleged that law enforcing agencies resorted to high-handed and barbaric act upon the people while forgetting their vows to safeguard the innocent public.

.MNgachonmi of Somdal village who is also the Information Secretary of Somdal Youth and Cultural Club was shot without any provocations while two more youths from Teinem were fatally wounded and later succumbed, the statement said, while denouncing the barbaric act committed by the law enforcing agencies.

It said many more have been victimized and traumatized.
