Imphal, July 31 2024:
Despite appeal by chief minister and the speaker serving formal invitation, none of the 10 Kuki MLAs turned up for the 6th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, which commenced Wednesday.
The 10 Kuki MLAs including two ministers also did not make any formal communication regarding the sitting though it is a norm to seek leave from the House if a member is unable to attend session.
Such a leave has to be approved by the House as and when the speaker make announcement.
Meanwhile, apart from hurling strong accusation against chief minister N Biren Singh, BJP MLA Paolienlal Haokip has said that there will be no resolution to the current crisis in Manipur until dividing the state into three Union Territories.
When asked if 10 Kuki MLAs will take part the Manipur Legislative Assembly session, Paolienlal Haokip told NE Live in an interview that none of the Kuki MLAs would take part in the assembly session.
He said that one Kuki MLA was beaten badly and none of the Kuki MLAs could attend the assembly session in the prevailing situation.
When asked about his opinion on chief minister's appeal to attend assembly session and formal invitation served to Kuki MLAs by the speaker, Paolienlal said it is not the duty of the chief minister to invite members of the assembly to attend session but the Governor who has to serve such invitations.
He also said that it is not safe for Kuki MLAs to visit Imphal at present.
Regarding his views on the present situation and resolving the crisis, the BJP legislator said he has been repeatedly voicing for division of Manipur into three Union Territories for the Meiteis, Kukis and Nagas.
The region being strategic, government of India could establish good relations with its neighbouring countries when such a situation arrives, he observed.
When asked if he would re -sign if his demand is not met, Paolienlal Haokip said that he has to find an alternative if the government of India fails to address the crisis.
