Imphal, October 30 2024:
The Thadou Community International (TCI) appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the crisis in Manipur through dialogue and mutual respect, stating that the violence broke out due to misunderstanding.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister through India's High Commission Office, London, the TCI highlighted plight of the Thadou people due to the ethnic conflict in Manipur and presented an overview of their peace initiatives.
The memorandum also highlighted TCI's efforts to promote peace, harmony and reconciliation in Manipur, and apprised the PM on Thadou tribe's distinct pre-colonial identity, cultural and historical heritage.
While emphasising human rights concerns and social injustices faced by the Thadou community in the current Manipur crisis, the TCI memorandum said that Thadou people have been subdued and marginalised since long.
Thadou community has been the most affected victims but silenced in the present conflict, the TCI said and cautioned that prolonging violence will only widen the rift and eventually affect the younger generations for decades to come.
Although misunderstandings have led to violence, mutual respect and understanding through dialogues will subsequently bring lasting peace and harmony as all the communities have to live together, the TCI said adding that peace, justice and mutual co-existence will be a significant step towards collaborative efforts for finding solution for the crisis.
The memorandum further said that TCI remains committed to promoting peace, non-violence, justice, and human rights.
Collective action and inclusive dialogue are essential for resolving the complex issues underlying the conflict, the TCI said.
