Meet resolves to form expert committee on ILP

A one-day academic discussion on Inner Line Permit was organized by All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) at Manipur College, Singjamei in Imphal West today.
Besides Dr Kh Jayentakumar, principal of Manipur College and M Lokendra, president of AMCTA who attended as Chief Guest and President respectively, the occasion was also graced by Assistant Prof RK Itocha, Department of Political Science, Imphal College; Associate professor Dr S Benjamin Nattar, Department of Political Science, Manipur College and Prof Arambam Lokendra, retd Director of AVRC, MU as Resource Persons.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Jayentakumar pointed out that lack of work culture amongst the indigenous people is one of the main factors that has encouraged influx of non-locals into the State especially in valley region which now needs implementation of Inner Line Permit System without any further delay.
He stated that economy of the State which has been reeling under hard phase should be enhanced and adequate jobs should be created for unemployed youths of the State as a means to curb the rampant entry of outsiders.
M Lokendra said that the government has failed to enforce the ILP system despite passing of resolutions on the matter in the Assembly so far and asserted that it is high time for people to hold brainstorming sessions to find out possible measures to implement ILP system in the State at the earliest.
During the discussion, two resolutions regarding implementation of ILP system in the State were unanimously adopted.
It resolved to support the State Government in exerting pressure on Central Government regarding resolutions taken on ILP implementation in the Assembly and form a an expert committee consisting of legal and constitutional experts to work out mechanism for implementation of the system here in the State at the earliest.
Today's discussion programme was moderated by Prof Ksh Bimola, Department of Political Science, MU.
Meanwhile, extending support to the ongoing demand for implementation of ILP system in the Sate to save its indigenous people from the unchecked influx of outsiders, a sit-in-protest was staged by Apunba Manipur Matam Esei Kanglup at Keishampat Lairembi Shanglen.
A massive sit-in-protest was also organized jointly by clubs and women folks of Keibi Khullen including students of Oriental English School, Keibi at Keibi Khullen.
Similar protests were also staged at Chana Community Hall and Huikap Community Hall during which protesters demanded enforcement of Inner Line Permit System in the State without any further delay.
