Imphal, July 30 2015:
Drawing immediate attention of the State Govt to the damaged Barak bridge, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union said that transporters are facing a serious problem.
The bridge, which comes under National Highway 37 Imphal-Jiribam Road, was completed in 2014 but was soon established the failure of BRO after it was tilted on one side, said a release by AMRTDMWU.
The statement alleged that the bridge was damaged for the second time on July 26 last since there were no authorities above BRO to look into while they were constructing the bridge.
Blaming the BRO, AMRTDMWU has asked the secret agenda of informing not to carry more than 24 tons while crossing the bridge, which is not even two years old.
It was BRO's failure to maintain quality because during the construction, it was assured to cross the bridge weighing more than 40 tons, added the statement.
Asking the reason of not allowing to carry more than 24 tons, AMRTDMWU said that it is the violation of Central Motor Vehicle Act while most of the vehicles transporting through national highways of other states weighs between 10-35 tons.
AMRTDMWU believes that the Central Govt has not done enough even though National Highway 37 was included in BJP's hundred day's programme.
Urging the Central Govt to instruct BRO on the matter, the statement also appealed to the State Govt and authorities, especially Works Minister, to repair the bridge at earliest.
